Japanese Maekake Traditional Apron Indigo Denim Cotton Longer Length YA69
This is an original shopkeeper's apron from Japan and sewn prior to 1975, the year it was sent to my friend in NY.
Photos 1-5 are from one side that says, "Tsukudani Grain Wholesale" and "Yamakuran Shoten", and "Sasashima" with phone numbers for the factory, sales office and headquarters written below. The back side has the same text but the blue has faded areas.
The color of this apron is light a well loved pair of blue jeans.
These are wonderful, sturdy, washable cotton aprons that identify the shop where once worn. The characters are resist dyed, not just printed on the background. In good condition but has minimum dye transfer from the blue to the ivory. The front side has blue dye on the roof-like line above the large Kanji character. Some of the characters has light discoloration.
Width is 18", length is 25" plus fringe. Ties extend 32" from the sides and are a bit worn.
