Japanese Maekake Traditional Apron Indigo Denim Cotton Longer Length YA74
This is an original shopkeeper's apron from Japan and sewn prior to 1975, the year it was sent to my friend in NY.
It says, " Nori Seaweed", Motofuji, and I'm still translating the text at the bottom edge.
The first three photos are of one side, the other photos of the opposite side.
These are wonderful, sturdy, washable cotton aprons that identify the shop where once worn. The characters are resist dyed, not just printed on the background. Both sides have the images. In good condition but has very minimum dye transfer from the blue to the ivory in a few spots. The white characters have some patina in places but the photos amplify the staining. From a foot away you don't even notice the flaws.
Width is 17", length is 26" plus fringe. Ties extend 33" from the sides. The very end of one ties had a bit of fraying.
