Japanese Maekake Traditional Apron Indigo Denim Cotton Shorter Length YA80
This is an original shopkeeper's apron from Japan and sewn prior to 1975, the year it was sent to my friend in NY. It says, "Okayama Prescription Company" and the telephone numbers of the shop.
These are wonderful, sturdy, washable cotton aprons that identify the shop where once worn. The phone number is at the bottom. The characters are resist dyed, not
just printed on the background. Only the front side has the images. In very good condition but has dye transfer and streaking from washing. The color is still very dark indigo.
There are two pockets on the lower front (photo 3). The largest white character has discoloration from age (photo 5).
Width is 18.5", length is 18" plus fringe. Ties extend 32" from the sides.
