Japanese Maekake Traditional Apron Indigo Denim Cotton Shorter Length YA68
This is an original shopkeeper's apron from Japan and sewn prior to 1975, the year it was sent to my friend in NY.
It says, "Livestock Bagena Saika Tang Dynasty" if Google Translate is working!
These are wonderful, sturdy, washable cotton aprons that identify the shop where once worn. The characters are resist dyed, not just printed on the background. Only the front side has the text. In very good condition but has a small amount of dye transfer from washing. The color is still very dark indigo. There are some loose threads in the weave but no holes. These could be snipped off.
There is a small diagonally placed pocket on the top right (photo 4).
Width is 17.5", length is 20" plus fringe. Ties extend 32" from the sides.
