Japanese Maekake Traditional Apron Indigo Denim Cotton Shorter Length YA75
This is an original shopkeeper's apron from Japan and sewn prior to 1975, the year it was sent to my friend in NY.
I'm unable to translate the text because there is so much written that it's confusing my Google Translation app. Usually the writing advertises the shop where the apron was worn.
These are wonderful, sturdy, washable cotton aprons. The characters are resist dyed, not just printed on the background. Only the front side has the design.
In very good condition with minimal dye transfer onto the white areas. The color is still very dark indigo.
There is a pocket on the upper right (photo 3) and photo 5 shows the back side of that area.
Width is 17", length is 22" plus fringe. Ties extend 32" from the sides.
