Vintage Aqua Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1701
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with abstract flower patterns in the puckered areas.
The last photo shows the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts have a hemp leaf pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
The color of this is close to aqua, a bit more green than the photos but I could not get my photo editor to adjust.
Measures just 54" x 11.5" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here
