Vintage Aqua Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1966
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf!   This one is light weight with intersecting lines in the puckered areas.
The last photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts have a swirl pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures just 50" x 12" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here

  • Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe.  The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
