Vintage Cafe au Lait Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1961
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf!   This one is light weight in a light shades ecru darkening to brown in the shibori dyed areas.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process; this one with abstract chrysanthemum patterns.
The flatter parts have a concentric diamond pattern jacquard weave and are very soft.
The last photo is a closeup of the middle section and has a tiny pinhole in the lower right.  It is so small that you may not see it.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures 58" x 11.5" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here

  • Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe.  The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
