Vintage Dark Coral Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1746
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with tree shaped patterns in the puckered areas along with small raspberry dots.
I tried to capture the true color of dark coral but the photos appear more red than the actual scarf.
The center photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts show a satin grid patterned jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures just 56" x 12" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here

Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe. The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
