Vintage Gold Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Shibori Dyed Obiage H1791
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf!   This one is light weight with awesome royal cart wheel patterns in the puckered areas.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts have a pavement pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures just 52" x 12" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here

  • Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe.  The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
