Vintage Green-Blue Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1919
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf!   This one is medium weight with puckers in most areas and untied edges with a jacquard weave.  I struggled to get the color right but failed.
The shade is more green than the photos but still has blue in it.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process, where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures just 54" long x 8" (at narrower width), shorter than many scarves here

  • Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe.  The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
