Haori H1656 - meisen silk kimono jacket hand-stitched by kimono makers in Japan
Smooth woven silk from mid-century Japan of cloth called meisen, which was very popular at the time This is also a kasuri fabric, a resist dyed method of tying off the cloth to form gently fuzzy lines in the weave.
The pattern is an abstract line and flower design in two shades of orange-brown.
The lining is a peach colored silk jacquard with a chrysanthemum pattern and it has some discoloration.
Despite being about 75 years old this jacket is in good condition with just a few weaving or dyeing flaws and some spots on the lining. The outer edges of the sleeves are a bit faded.
Features the traditional hanging sleeve of a kimono. Measures 49" from sleeve tip to tip. Length is 29" from back of neck and 31" including collar. Chest area is 46". Haori jackets do not wrap, are worn open. Hip area across the back is 24". Fits near size 8-10.
