Japanese Silk Kimono Scarf H1677 - Vintage Soft Orange Silk Shibori Dyed Obiage Scarf
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with gorgeous shibori dyed patterns.
The last photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process; this one with ombre shading and plum blossom patterns. The flowers are stitched with a line of copper metallic thread which really sparkles.
The flatter parts have a rhombus pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures 56" x 11.5" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here
Vintage Orange Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1677
Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe. The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
