Vintage Purple Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H2132
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with wedge shaped shibori dyed patterns.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised whitish area has been tied off to resist the purple dye. The 6th photo appears to show streaking but it is my camera acting up and the area is fine.
The flatter parts have a jacquard weave with that ancient Buddhist symbol for peace.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures 50" x 12" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here
