Vintage Red Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H2032
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is unusual with two shades of red with all areas shibori dyed except for the very ends. There are also flower shapes made with a stretchy, sparkly material that sits on the surface.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts have a mixed floral and traditional Buddhist pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
Measures just 50" x 15" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here
The narrow areas measure about 7" without stretching them.
