Vintage Seafoam Silk Shibori Scarf: Japanese Kimono Obiage H1695
This is a traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with 3 differently shaped shibori dyed patterns: fan, lattice and wave.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process where each raised area has been tied off to resist the dye.
The flatter parts have a mixed floral and traditional Buddhist pattern jacquard weave.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.
The color of this is close or aqua or seafoam, a bit more green than the photos but I could not get my photo editor to adjust.
Measures just 50" x 12" wide (at full width), shorter than many scarves here

  • Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe.  The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
