A traditional scarf called obiage which is worn under a Japanese obi
I found that it makes a fantastic neck scarf! This one is light weight with cloud shaped shibori dyed patterns on gradated yellow silk jacquard with a grass pattern.
The middle photos show the complexity of the shibori dye process.
The edges of obiage are not sewn under, they are merely pinked.

Kimono scarves are neck scarves sewn from bolts of Japanese kimono fabric, originally intended to be made into a kimono jacket or robe. The bolts of cloth are narrow, between 12-14", so they are a natural choice for scarf making.
